The Remix Roundup – Part 5!

Submitted by / 13 years ago / New Songs

So far I feel like this feature has focused quite heavily on the indie side of the remixes that have been released, whilst the pop and chart hits that have been mixed have been neglected some what. So what better way to start things off than with one of the biggest chart sensations over the past few years? Katy Perry.

This remix is Fred Falke all over. A nice house beat and some synth placed on top of Firework. It works nicely and is a decent shout for a DJ set if you are playing more mainstream tracks.

This next mix is of a solo artist who has had a sensational breakout year and is one of the most sought after names in the business at the moment. Her work is remixed time and time again and I believe the Russ Chimes remix of Starry Eyed won remix of the year on this very blog. This remix comes from Messed who have chosen to throw drum and bass on top of Lights. I like it.

The last two tracks have both been fairly recent so I think it’s a good idea to choose a classic that has been mixed that you may have missed. The Killers have slightly gone off the radar of late and Hot Fuss certainly remains their best work to date. I only found this remix a short time ago and I am big fan of it already.

Another very simple mix of the original with only a house beat added which gives the song a nice rhythm. There are a few effects placed over the top of the vocals but that is pretty much it really. Oh yeah, the track is Smile Like You Mean It.

Of the many strange, eclectic and downright surprising remixes I have found over the years this is right up there with the most confusing. Quite what possessed MSTRKRFT to remix Love In This Club by Usher I have no idea but it actually works and from my experience is a massive crowd pleaser. Give it a chance.

Lastly, here is another nice and chilled remix of Nothin’ On You by B.o.B featuring Bruno Mars. There are two version of this remix, one containing Bei Maejor and Villains. The one posted contains only Villains and is definitely the better of the two, Maejor talking or ‘rapping’ over the top ruins it slightly for me. Tidy.
