I’ve spent the past week soaking in the Spanish sun and drinking in the fresh salty sea air. This was no usual Spanish get away however. I spent this particular week at the Festival Internacional de Benicà ssim, immersing myself in an entirely different festival culture than what I am used to. It’s fair to say that this festival has easily surpassed the festivals I have been to before.
You might ask why, justifiably. British music festivals are amongst the most famous in the world and British crowds and the atmosphere’s they create are often acknowledged as the best this planet has to offer, something I am proud of. Despite this however, the whole atmosphere or ‘vibe’ is totally different to that of British festivals.
People are there to relax and take in some fine music at night. There is no chaotic last night in which tents are burned and other acts of general pandemonium are committed. There is no rain at this festival and the previsions the authorities of Benicassim take to protect its goers from the sun is admirable and more than anyone can ask. There are showers, glorious showers! What else do you want?! People are friendly and the local Spanish who attend the festival embrace the forty thousand who invade their quaint town for a week. The music isn’t bad either (honestly, seeing Friendly Fires at three o’clock in the morning was one of the best experiences of my life).
To celebrate what a wonderful festival it was here is a selection of mixes, B-Sides and covers from some of the bands and artists who played at the festival:

Chase & Status – Let You Go (Brookes Brothers Remix)
Elbow – Grounds For Divorce (Alternate Version)
