Purity Ring Lofticries

Lately I have been inundated with e-mails about the forthcoming CMJ Festival in New York, which is basically five nonstop days and nights of new bands and new music in various venues around the city. From what I’ve heard it seems to be quite a disjointed, expensive experience, but seeing as I’m not going I don’t really care. I’d imagine though that there will be a lot of standing around involved and very little dancing to be seen.

Anyway, the event is a platform for over 1,200 artists to make their mark in the industry and there have been some great success stories in the past such as Arcade Fire in 2004, Black Kids in 2007, or Surfer Blood and Sleigh Bells in 2009.

Even before the event has begun, Canadian duo Purity Ring have been touted as one of the potential acts to take the crown as this year’s best band. After listening to their material I can definitely see why these claims have been made. Powerful, melodic, and littered with heavily distorted background vocals? It’s like a checklist of what’s in vogue at the moment.

Check out their single Lofticries below and let us know what you think of Purity Ring.
