Initially I was lured to Who Datt Part 2 by Childish Gaminbo who I have been watching a whole lot of since I started watching back to back episodes of Community, but this song got a whole lot more interesting after I found out the story behind the song.
Peter Rosenberg is a DJ over in New York who works for Hot 97 radio, and he has just put out a new mixtape which features Who Datt Part 2. If you’re wondering who SD the unknown quantity is, that’s Spencer Datt, the little brother of Peter Rosenberg’s fiancee who was killed in a drunk driving accident in May, at the age of only 18.
Rosenberg had this to say about him:
Before Spencer passed away, he had started dabbling in rhyming. I wish I had told him how much potential he had, but I didn’t want to gas him up so early on. I should have. And I should have told him that he was just about my favorite person on earth to hang out with, but I think he knew that. He was an amazing person who brought joy to everyone. I will take him with me in everything I do from now until forever. I love you Spencer.
As a brand new rapper–he actually had his own style. He borrowed from his favorites, but he really had his own spin. Keep in mind–he was brand new, but I love the way he sounded. He actually was an MC.
