Little Boots – Shake

Little Boots Shake

A lot of the BBC Sound of 2009 crowd who have been out of the limelight for the last 2 years are starting to make a comeback: VV Brown, The Big Pink, Florence + The Machine, Master Shortie and finally Little Boots.

Whereas artists such as KiD CuDi and Lady Gaga decided to take an aggressive approach to the release of their music (and to great success), Little Boots has virtually been missing from our radar since the release of her debut album Hands.

Hands went Gold in the UK but it only charted at #5 in the first week, and it’s probably fair to say that the release was somewhat eclipsed by some of her contemporaries’ offerings.

Little Boots has been writing new material for her sophomore album since early 2010, and it looks like she will be finally ready to release it in early 2012. Yesterday she premiered the debut single Shake on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show, and the sound is quite similar to what first brought her to the mainstream.

The problem is that Shake isn’t amazing, and Little Boots will need to have amazing material in order to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump, which I fear in this case may be ready to claim another victim.
