Dot Rotten – Overload

Dot Rotten Overload

After the disastrous chart performance of his last single “Are You Not Entertained?“, it looks like Dot Rotten has fallen back on a classic UK hip-hop technique of sampling a classic 90s dance anthem. His new single “Overload” premiered tonight on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show, taking Robert Miles‘s anthemic release “Children” and giving it a dubstep twist.

I’m still not sure if I’m a fan of what he has done with the instrumental, but I can’t deny that lyrically Dot Rotten is up there as one of my favourites at the moment. Other rappers like Tinie Tempah are simply happy making quips that rhyme, but Dot Rotten always sounds like he has something substantial to say.

Sampling Robert Miles. Hit or miss?
