Skrillex’s label OWSLA has been busy signing some very interesting acts who have dropped some excellent releases in the past few months. Birdy Nam Nam dropped their Jaded Future EP, which was followed by Seven Lions‘ Days to Come. The label’s latest release comes from their latest signee, UK based group Monsta comprised of two producers (Rocky & Rufio) and vocalist and frontman, Skaar. The trio’s unique blend of soul, dubstep, led by Skaar’s powerful vocals are showcased on their original tracks especially on “Holdin On”.
Besides the very impressive individual material, the remixes by Skrillex and fellow OWSLA members have been a highlight of the EP’s. The EP boasts remixes from heavyweight names including Skrillex himself in collaboration with Nero, on their remix for Holdin’ On. The remix is a throwback to Nero’s older drum n’ bass style with Skrillex’s own signature bass stabs.
My personal favorite remix from the bunch is the collaboration between Dillon Francis and Kill Paris. Dillon Francis’s synth work is always a highlight and the playful high pitched noises that have made him quite popular make a return on this before crashing into an awesome bass driven mess that completely flips the angst of the original track.
