Elton John vs. Pnau – Good Morning To The Night

Elton John Pnau Mona Lisa And Mad Hatters

You will probably have already heard of Pnau, the Australian dance music duo originating from Sydney (and one half of the critically acclaimed band Empire of The Sun). Well in 2008, after they released their brilliant self-titled album “Pnau“, they were promptly signed up to Elton John‘s management team after he declared it to be the best record he had heard in 10 years.

Subsequently a number of projects featuring Elton’s involvement are currently in development, including Pnau’s new album “Soft Universe“, as well as an 8-track album featuring Pnau recreations of Elton John’s classic hits. In an ambitious undertaking, the music icon gave the pair the multitracks to his entire back-catalogue and allowed them free reign to reinterpret them as they please.

The first track from the project is called “Good Morning To The Night“, and it’s a reinvention of “Mona Lisa And Mad Hatters” (from Elton’s fifth studio album “Honky Château“), got its world premiere tonight on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show and it’s definitely a cracker.

I think Elton may have played an absolute blinder here.
