Robyn – Hyperballad (Björk Cover)

Submitted by / 13 years ago / Music Videos

Created by ABBA publisher, lyricist and manager Stig “Stikkan” Anderson in 1989, the Polar Music Prize annually awards 1 million kronor ($136,000) to “individuals, groups and institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements,” according to the prize’s website.

This year’s recipients were Italian composer Ennio Morricone and Björk, and, as part of today’s award ceremony in Stockholm, Robyn covered the Icelandic singer’s 1996 single Hyperballad backed by a full orchestra.

I can’t really tell if Björk enjoyed the performance as she sat about five feet away from Robyn keeping an absolutely stone face throughout. She did smile and clap afterwards but I’m not sure whether that was just out of politeness or not.

Personally I would have liked to have seen Björk do that performance backed to the hilt by a full orchestra, but Robyn did a decent job. Click here for an original version if you prefer (complete with epic drumming)!
