Whilst some of you may know that I run this blog in my spare time (in between my job and doing a Masters degree in Computing Science), I’m sure that the majority of you don’t.
Over the summer I have been attempting to write my Dissertation whilst juggling all of these other aspects of my life and to be quite honest it has been pretty difficult. I’ve got to the stage now where my Dissertation is nearly reaching completion, however I still require a vital aspect of the project – user feedback.
I know a lot of you will be familiar with the iTunes store, and the little preview button they place on every song which allows you to sample 30 seconds of audio. This is called an audio thumbnail.
The aim of my dissertation is to develop a computer program that could analyse a piece of popular music and automatically decide which part of a song would be most suitable to make up that audio thumbnail. I think I have now done that, but I urgently require some real life users to rate the effectiveness of my thumbnails against alternative methods.
This is where you guys come in (hopefully).
I don’t ask for much in return from this blog (I mean we barely even manage to cover the server costs), but if you guys would take just 10 minutes out of your day to complete a short survey, it would mean the absolute world to me.
I’m going to leave this as a sticky on the blog until I get around 50 completed questionnaires, so if you don’t want to be greeted by this post every time you visit the homepage then chip in and fill out the form! If you guys could share this post on Facebook or Twitter and get your friends to help out too, that would be absolutely amazing. The sooner this gets completed, the better.
If you have any questions about the survey, or want to know more about the work I’m doing, feel free to leave a comment. Thank You.
