Vampire Weekend, the band of Columbia University graduates that began its rise to indie-rock fame long before it had released any recordings, has hit the number one spot on the Billboard album chart with their second album, “Contraâ€. Although Contra’s sales of 124,000 copies may seem quite low for a number one album, it is a magnificent achievement for a band who just two years ago missed out on being shortlisted in the BBC Sound of 2008 poll. The reviews for the new album have been very favourable and they are very deserving of their current success. Buy it if you don’t have it already!
