Gone But Never Forgotten – R.I.P. Michael Jackson

Submitted by / 14 years ago / Music News

It seems crazy that just over a year ago I was still looking forward to going to see Michael Jackson live at the O2 Arena, not once, but twice, fulfilling a lifelong dream of watching him perform in person.

I can still remember hearing the new while on holiday, rushing to log on to the nearest computer just so I could rapidly refresh the TMZ website, hoping that the rumours weren’t true.

I think for my generation it will be one of those moments where you can ask people where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news and they will be able to recall the situation verbatim.

I think Bun B said it well about the current situation surrounding the King of Pop:

“I just wish that people would leave well enough alone,” Bun said.

“It’s still a lot of mess surrounding [his death], it’s a lot of people that are willing to entertain people who are looking for mess. I’m not going to name names, ’cause everybody deals with grief differently. I think they should leave well enough alone. If they want to have one thing a year for Mike, that’s fine — of course, however they choose to honor him [privately is fine]. But I think they just need to let the fans do their thing [in celebrating]. Let that man rest in peace.”

Amen.
