Today the BBC decided to unveil their controversial Sound of 2012 longlist which aims to “highlight music’s most exciting new artists for the year ahead”. Similar to last year, I’m quite familiar with over half of the artists on the list (as should you be if you’re a regular reader) which leaves seven/eight new musical avenues for us to explore.
None of the entries that we were familiar with came as a surprise, however we did raise an eyebrow at some of the acts who we thought would make it but didn’t make the cut. I was hoping to see appearances from Madeon, The Weeknd, Lucy Rose, Clock Opera and Charli XCX amongst others, but it seems that the tastemakers have spoken.
Anyway here is the list:

Lianne La Havas
Niki & The Dove
What do you guys make of the list? Hot or not? Here’s a small Spotify playlist for those of you looking to check out some of the above music (if you find a better playlist then let us know).
