Anna Calvi’s unique blend of dark atmospheric romantic pop has apparantly already caught the attention several well respected musical powers; championed by Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons, Mercury-Award-Nominated Dave Okumu, and the legendary Brian Eno, Calvi looks set for further success in 2011.
She has recently toured with Grinderman, and is currently working on her debut album which is produced by Rob Ellis, long-term collaborator of PJ Harvey.
Her debut single Jezebel was originally written by Wayne Shanklin in 1951, but she says that she fell in love with Edith Piaf’s version which was recorded in French. It had such an impact on her that she felt compelled to record her own interpretation of it, and you can grab a live recording of her performance of it below:
