It’s been a while since I posted a review and for that I apologise. A lot of new music, both good (hello there M.I.A.) and bad (yes you, The Saturdays) has found its way to my ears but my thoughts have not found their way onto here.

So in order to address this I’m going to try and up my reviewing game but reduce my verbal output. Put simply: more reviews, less words. I’ll give you my brief thoughts, perhaps a standout track or two, and then let you have a listen and see what you think.

We kick things off with Klaxons whose 2nd studio album Surfing the Void, was released on 23rd August.

It’s an album which combines the bands’ experimental musical talent with their record label’s music-business intuition after a reported hard-thought musical compromise was reached. Thick, beefy, guitar-heavy sounds are on offer but this album is definitely a victim of the success of Myths Of The Near Future and doesn’t get close to matching it for quality. A bold album, it’s a solid offering and whilst it is a credible step away from their first album, it is also a step down.

Echoes – 1st single to come from the album for a reason, it acts as a reminder why the band were once deemed good enough to win the Mercury Prize.
