We’ve been huge fans of Manchester based rising stars Swiss Lips ever since we first latched on to their debut single “U Got The Power“. We think they have the songwriting ability to be one of the biggest band in Britain one day, so it was an obvious priority for us to grab an interview with them before they inevitably blow up.
A while ago you were looking for the best answer to the frequently asked question, “how did you come up with your name?â€. What did you eventually go with? We heard rumours that when Luke was standing on the edge of his toilet hanging a clock, he slipped and hit his head on the sink. When he came to he had a revelation. Can you confirm or deny?
“Yes this is definitely the truth. He was doing a sexy dance on the toilet seat.”.
There has been tremendous support given to your two official singles so far, “Danz†and “U Got The Powerâ€. Can we expect a follow-up single any time soon?
“Most definitely. We’ve got loads of stuff to release.”
We seem to have been waiting for a debut album from you guys for quite a while now, is there any chance we will get our hands on it before the end of the year?
“I believe so. Our album has been finished for a while. We wanna get it out really quickly but unfortunately it’s not up to us , as soon as we can it’ll be out!”
You went on tour with your good friends Bastille last year, and they of course hit the #1 spot with their album “Bad Blood†earlier in 2013. Is there anything you have taken from their slightly unorthodox release approach?
“It’s been amazing to see them grow since we toured with them. The way they have constantly released music has shown us how to do it, and putting pressure on our label to get music out there.”
We absolutely loved your interpretation of Frank Ocean’s “Lost†which came slightly out of the blue. Are there any more covers lined up for the future?
Thank you, we’re working on a couple now , you’ll hear them soon!
If for some reason our readers can’t catch you during your UK tour dates in June, will you be appearing at any festivals this year?
“Yeah we’re doing some little ones and some big ones. All will be on our website soon.”
What are the Top 5 tracks you guys have got on repeat at the moment?
Vampire Weekend – “Step”
Kendrick Lamar – “Money Trees”
The Lemonheads – “The Great Big No”
Silverclub – “No Application”
Avec Sans – “Heartbreak Hi”
Can you give us one question that we should ask the band we interview?
“Do you ever just wanna give up and be a postman?”
